Caye Caulker resident Tracie Young was about to give up on Halloween. She had decided that 2018 was her last year to dress up in full costume, but then she tried something crazy and fun. Tracie took on a 31 Costume Challenge that had her enjoying Halloween a maximum of 31 days.
So each day in October, Tracie had to come up with a Halloween costume to share on her Facebook profile. The costumes were creative, on a budget and homemade. “I wanted to remind my peers that Halloween is fun and as we get older it only gets better,” commented Tracie to Ambergris Today. “I wanted to show everyone that you do not need to spend lots of money on costumes to look great.”
So day by day throughout October, Tracie was entertaining her friends and followers on social media with her creative costumes that she came up with. She posted side by side pictures of her creations and what inspired her for the costume. Her biggest challenge in coming up with a different costume each day, she says, was finding everyday items in her house to make them. She had challenged herself to keep a small budget, mostly based off items she already owned.
“I enjoy watching movies and TV shows, and I love getting to dress up and pretend to be one of the characters,” said Tracie when asked what she likes most about Halloween. “While in a costume I can scare people or make them laugh. It’s also fun trying to guess who’s behind which mask.”
We think Tracie totally enjoyed this Halloween that it will be difficult for her to give it up next year. She will be back with bigger and better costumes, for sure. Congratulations Tracie, and thank you for reminding us how much fun we can have during Halloween.
Tracie attended two Halloween parties in Caye Caulker, one at Koko King on the 27th and the other at the Sports Bar on Halloween Day. Her favorite costumes were Winnie form Hocus Locus, when she danced “Caballito de Palo” and her grand finale which was a tribute to Edward Scissor Hands.
