Five young ladies competed at this year's Miss San Pedro Pageant which took place on Saturday, September 7, 2019 under the theme “Jewels of the Sea”. Helen Barrera, Tanisha Rhaburn, Litzy Castillo, Eileen Reyes and Blanca Velasquez took on the stage at the Hon. Louis Sylvestre Sporting Complex, venue for this year's pageant. At event's end, Miss Litzy Castillo Guillen sponsored by Ramon's Village Resort, was selected as Miss San Pedro 2019.

The Ambergris Caye Masonic Lodge is  pleased  to  inform  the public  that  island  resident  Anthony  Coleman,  has  been  accepted  by  the  Shriner's Hospital  in  the  United  States.  Anthony,  a  San  Pedro  High  School  student  lost  both  arms  in  an  accident.  Consequently, Ambergris  Caye  Masonic  Lodge  has  embarked  on  a  mission  of  fitting  him  with  a  pair  of  prosthetic  arms.  Through fraternal  relations  between  our  Masonic  Lodge  and Shriner's  Hospital,  a  date  has  been  set  for  his  first  Hospital visit  in the United States.

On the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the Government of Belize and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), on Thursday, September 5, 2019, the National Assembly of Belize received a contribution of BZ$40,000.00 from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, in Belmopan, Minister of Transport Honorable Edmond Castro signed a new Statutory Instrument to regulate international buses from neighboring countries (Guatemala and Mexico) entering Belize, in accordance with agreements reached among representatives from the Ministry and Department of Transport, the Belizean Bus Association and Taxi Federation, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Attorney General Office, and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Commerce.

The Right Honourable Dean Barrow, Prime Minister of Belize, on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, sent a message of condolence and solidarity to the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm on September 1st, 2019. Cabinet agreed, at its meeting today, to make a contribution of US$100,000 to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to assist in the recovery efforts.

Belize Red Cross Launches Monetary Appeal to help Persons affected by the Catastrophic Hurricane Dorian The Belize Red Cross Society (“BRC”) is in solidarity with our Caribbean brothers and sisters in the islands of the Bahamas. Since Sunday, September 1st, the northern islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama have been catastrophically impacted by Hurricane Dorian, the strongest and most sustained Category 5 hurricane ever to be recorded in the region.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment, Sustainable Development and Immigration (MAFFESDI), through the National Climate Change Office, is implementing the REDD+ Readiness Preparation Project. REDD+ is a global initiative to combat climate change by reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and by fostering conservation, sustainable management of forests, and the enhancement of forest carbon stocks.

San Pedro Police and Special Operations Team conducted a special operation in the San Juan Area of San Pedro Town where they found drugs and ammunition. According to reports on Thursday, August 29,2019, about 11:45 a.m, the Special Operations Team and other officers conducted an operation in the area of San Juan, San Pedro, as a result, they found a black plastic bag containing  (30) 5.56 live rounds of ammunition that marked (FC). They also found 222.8 grams of suspected cannabis. Properties were labeled and deposited as found property.

The Flag of Belize is in the final stages of being standardized.  At an event held on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City, the media was informed of the work currently underway to standardize the Belizean Flag.

On August 26, 2019, Belizean Gail Hudson, a fifth-grade teacher at Hummel Elementary was selected as the 2020 Nevada Teacher of the Year. Hudson is an educator who migrated to the USA from Belize when it was still known as British Honduras. Ms. Hudson is a national board-certified teacher who has been in the classroom for over three decades. According to reports the elementary school teacher says she takes pride in helping students who come from out of the country, adjust to cultural differences in the classroom.

Honduras, Cayman Islands, Belize and Guyana have all punched tickets to the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship after finishing atop their respective groups in last week’s 2019 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship Qualifying. Matched with Saint Lucia, Bonaire and Anguilla in Group A, Honduras marched to a first-place finish with a 3W-0D-0L, 17GF-0GC record at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Laura Tucker Longsworth, recently attended the 22nd Extraordinary Meeting of Presiding Officers of National Parliaments of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL) that was held in the Chamber of the Mexican Senate in Mexico City. The extraordinary meeting of FOPREL was held on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the regional institution that comprises of Legislative Assemblies/Congresses of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Belize.
