For the first time at San Pedro Adult Continuing Education (SPACE) in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, a mother and daughter team received their Associate's Degree from the tertiary education institution during the Graduation and Commencement Exercises that took place on Sunday, June 9, 2019. They were among seventeen students completing their Sixth Form studies under the distinguished patronage of Mr. and Mrs. Gustavo Ellis, Dean of San Pedro Junior College.

On Monday, June 10th, 2019, the Ministry of Labour, Local Government and Rural Development hosted a Child Labour Training Workshop for officers of the Labour Department. The workshop sought to equip the employees with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in identifying and addressing the issue of child labour under a countrywide inspectorate programme within a legal framework.
Four years ago, Belize Police Department Inspector Sherlet Ramclam’s boss returned from a 10-week law enforcement leadership training program in the United States called the FBI National Academy and shortly thereafter pushed for some changes within the Central American country’s ranks of more than 2,300 officers. Last month, during her own 10-week tour as a student in the National Academy’s 276th class in Quantico, Virginia, Inspector Ramclam was moved to send a message to her boss to thank him for the work he was doing to push for institutional change.

The top scorers this year where AnnElyse Fleser-Perdue of Isla Bonita Elementary School (95% - 380/400 points), Kamryn Rhaburn of San Pedro RC School (91.8% - 367/400 points) and Nia Lisbey of Ambergris Caye Elementary School with (91% - 365/400 points).
Hundreds of Belizean wave makers country-wide observed World Oceans Day with different activities On Saturday June 8th, 2019, the international community celebrated World Oceans Day under the theme “Gender and the Oceans”. This year’s theme focuses on the importance of gender equality, particularly for the effective conservation and sustainable use of marine resources as we strive to build greater ocean and gender literacy, and discover possible ways to promote gender equality in all ocean-related activities.
Founded in 1971 San Pedro High has grown by leaps and bounds. After its first graduation of ten students, this past Sunday, June 8, 2019, SPHS marched 100 students up the aisle of the Rafael Angel Nuñez Auditorium in Graduation and Commencement exercises.
On Friday, June 7, 2019, The San Pedro Tiger Sharks played against Mirage Smart Belize Hurricanes at the Rafael Angel Nunez auditorium and swept away their third National Elite Basketball League Crown with a score of 72-65. Tiger Sharks led the game although it was a though one as they had though competition as the Hurricanes were also seeking their third league championship. In the end the Tiger Sharks came out victorious and thanked all their fans for their unconditional and wavering support. Congratulations to the San Pedro Tiger Sharks!!!!

Twenty soldiers of the Belize Defence Force (BDF) Volunteer Element departed the country on Thursday, May 30th, to participate in military exercises at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana, U.S.A., along with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Louisiana National Guard. The main purpose of the training exercise is to validate Combat Teams readiness for deployment. The soldiers will be trained in Wide Area Security, Combat Arm Maneuver and in Conduct of Offensive, Defensive and Stability Operations.

For the first time ever, the Sir Barry Bowen Cup was presented to two graduating students and one alumni of The Island Academy during their graduation ceremony on Friday, May 31, 2019. The graduating class consisted of eight students. Madison Edwards, Louke Van Noord, Nicholas Lausen, Bryan Camal, Ryan Camal, Malik Jones, Annie Nuñez and Elizabeth Sanchez received their primary school certificates of graduation from The Island Academy. The graduating class of 2019 received their diplomas and awards for high mark, including other top students from Infant to Standard 5 classes.
Saturday 1st June marked the beginning of the 2019 hurricane season for the Atlantic Basin. The season runs from 1st June to 30th November 2019. However the formation of tropical cyclones is possible at any time of the year, as shown by the formation of Subtropical Storm Andrea on May 20, which upon its formation marked the fifth consecutive year a storm developed before the official start of the season.
The Ministry of Health alerts the public on the identification of products that are being sold as medicines but not officially recognized and registered by the Ministry of Health. Two recent inspections resulted in the identification and subsequent confiscation of these types of products and other related supplies from peddlers/street vendors. The Ministry advises that peddling of medicines is illegal.
