Demphra of La Factoria and Panama Music artist Josseph presented a spectacular performance at the Holiday concert that took place on Saturday, December 19 at the Old Football Field. King of King Productions, who brought us Makano in September, did it again with a great show that featured these two superstars of Panama Music.
Upon their arrival on Friday, December 18, excited residents flocked to Central Park to greet La Factoria singer Demphra, and Panama Music’s rising star Josseph. They were accompanied by their backup dancers and management.
Stepping out of the San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi, Demphra immediately took a microphone and headed straight to greet her fans. She sang a capella to entice her fans of what was to come during her performance the following night. Mayor Elsa Paz was also on hand to welcome the stars to San Pedro.
It was a chilly concert night, but fans of La Factoria were eager for the show. Opening act for La Factoria were Denesio featuring Germ & Neslen and San Pedro High School’s Rock In Peace; their electric performances got the crowd all hyped up for La Factoria and Josseph.
As soon as the music started, Demphra took command of the stage with her strong presence and did not fail to entertain and keep everybody dancing all night long. Her “Diva” attitude made for a great performance as she engaged the crowed who kept singing along with her. Josseph accompanied Demphra on stage for two songs and also performed a couple songs of his own.
Some say La Factoria was better than Makano, but Makano had a great following of his own. All in all, both concerts that King of King Productions has produced for San Pedro have been highly entertaining. We want more!
It was another great event for the Lions Club of San Pedro as they hosted the elderly folk of San Pedro at their annual Senior Citizen Christmas Dinner on Friday, December 18, 2009. Folks arrived early during the evening to partake in the holiday festivities, planned and prepared by the Lions Club with the assistance of the Belize Bank staff and other eager volunteers.
The senior citizens were entertained by the Lions with lively holiday entertainment, including music serenades, dancing, and presents for all during the night. Later on, hot plates of a traditional turkey and ham dinner were served to the folks, while they enjoyed the delicious food.
As long as we can remember, the San Pedro Lions Club has held this historic and traditional Senior Citizens Christmas Party for folks in San Pedro who are 65 years or older. The San Pedro Lions Club says that the admire and respect the senior citizens of the island and that it brings them joy and happiness to see them enjoying the evening dedicated to them.
STORY #3 Angela Gegg Hosts Art Show
Coming from a successful art exhibit and book launch in Belize City, Angela Gegg was in San Pedro over the weekend to showcase her newest artwork and also promote her new book “Artist Confessions” at Belizean Arts located at Fido’s Courtyard.
Her latest exhibit, Impulse, is billed as “her most provocative show to date” and ran from November 13 - 27 at the Institute of Mexico in Belize. Impulse is a multi-part art exhibit that features artistic expressions across media and genres. It also serves as the framework for the launching of Angela’s second book, Artist Confessions, in which the writer deals with universal themes such as Sex, Sadness and Hate through graphic art and poetry.
Predominant themes in the art exhibit, as in the book, are the female form and mentality, as evidenced in the recurring images of women in various settings and props such as naked mannequins which sport messages that allude to “trophy wife” status.
Angela brought part of her art from the exhibit to share with the people of San Pedro and received a very good response from the island public.
STORY #4 Shyne Recording New Music In Belize
Moses Michael Leviy, formerly known as Shyne, has had a year filled with nothing less of ups and downs. He was released from jail after serving nearly nine years in prison for that infamous shooting but his moment quickly became bittersweet after he was deported to Belize.
Now as he readies his new life in another country, reports have circulated that he's making his return to the microphones. According to his good friend and confidante Angie Martinez, Shyne Po is indeed in the studio and readying new releases.
Angie confirmed the report via Twitter by replying to a fan who asked, “What's up with Shyne?” To which she responded: “He's great, doing lots of giving back. Big producers and big execs been flying to Belize and music is coming!"
STORY #5 Rumors
New Airline to Open in San Pedro
Rumors started running around town that a new airline was starting operations in San Pedro after folks stated seeing the construction of a new hangar across the airstrip on the west side. Speculations quickly arose as to who was going to give local airline Tropic Air and Maya Island Air some competition.
Ambergris Today did some quick investigations and found out that there was no new airline company opening its doors to San Pedro, but that the hangar is privately owned by a local businessman who plans to bring his aircraft to San Pedro. No, it’s not Mr. Bowen! That, we will let you find out on your own.
Movie Theatre on Island
The large building rising up from across the bridge on North Ambergris, with its impressive façade makes for some speculations that a movie theatre is being built in San Pedro. Just the front design of the building has the look of a movie theatre and many have asked Ambergris Today to find out what is the deal with that impressive building across the cut.
We poked around a bit and it was not hard to find out that the building is indeed a movie theatre that is being built at the Reef Village compound just across the bridge. One can clearly notice the building without having to cross the bridge. We don’t have full details about the movie theatre, except that it is a similar complex to that of the theatre in Belize City and Chetumal with a large movie screen, with plans of opening soon.
STORY #6 Belize in Top 10 Family Destinations for 2010
A sluggish-but-slowly-showing-signs-of-recovering economy won't stop families from traveling in 2010—but we're definitely looking for value in the trips we plan. That means we're shopping for great deals and seeking locales that appeal to toddlers through teens all at once—and in some instances, they might be trendy destinations we see on TV or the big screen.
Here are The Vacation Gals' Top 10 Family Destinations for 2010.
Belize
“I toured this diminutive Central American country last month without my family and often thought, "Boy, my kids would love this!" Climbing ancient Maya temples at Xunantunich (just a couple miles from the Guatemala border), snorkeling with sharks off of Ambergris Caye, ziplining through lush rainforest and "cave tubing" through bat-filled tunnels are all appealing to school-age kids (and adventurous grown-ups, too).”
The other nine choices for this writer include:
*Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia
*Hawaii
*Branson, Missouri

*Any U.S. National Park
